The second race of the Middle Eastern season has the most amount of climbing, and is a great test of the legs for the climbers looking to prove something in the early season.

Stage one showed a fast finish, once again taken by Katusha Alpecin’s Alexander Kristoff. The second stage though, featured an uphill finish that was taken brilliantly by BMC’s Ben Hermans ahead of UAE Abu Dhabi’s Rui Costa and Astana’s Jakob Fuglsang.

The uphill finish on Stage 3 was taken by Søren Anderson of Team Sunweb, but with no time difference to the race leaders. Kristoff took his second win of the week on Stage 4, coming to the front in the last kilometer after a climb on the circuit finish.

On the critical Green Mountain Stage, Ben Hermans powered up the climb to take his second stage win and seal overall victory. Fabio Aru (Astana) finished 3 seconds back, while Rui Costa finished 11 seconds back. Alexander Kristoff took the sixth and final stage of the race, his third of the week.

Ben Hermans took his first professional stage race win, cementing a strong showing by BMC this early season. With his three stage wins, Alexander Kristoff took home the points classification.

The final race of the Middle Eastern season will be the Abu Dhabi Tour, a World Tour event
