Santos Women’s Tour (2.2)
January 17, 2017
The first race of the Women’s season wrapped up today as the Santos Women’s Tour completed its fourth stage on the beautiful Victoria Park circuit in Adelaide. Orica Scott rider and former Australian Road Champion Amanda Spratt showed just how great women's cycling is by taking an impressive solo victory on Stage 1 in the South Australian town of Meadows. She kept her blue leaders jersey throughout the race to win her first Santos Women’s Tour 25 seconds ahead of the Dutch rider Janneke Ensing (Alé Cipollini) and 40 seconds ahead of the Dutch sprinter Kristen Wild (Cyclance). With the win, Spratt adds to the list of Orica riders who have won 5 out of the 6 runnings of the event, with the Australian based team now having won 4 in a row.
As for stage honors, the Dutch sprinter and 2016 Worlds Silver medalist Kristen Wild took the stage 2 criterium along the People’s Choice Classic route in the East End of Adelaide as well as the final stage's twilight criterium in Victoria Park. Australian sprinter and 2016 La Course winner Chloe Hosking (Alé Cipollini) took Stage 3 in Lyndoch.
In the beautiful hills of Adelaide, Janneke Ensing not only took second overall but also was crowned the Subaru Queen of the Mountains. Teammate Chloe Hosking took home the points classification in addition to her stage win ahead of Kristen Wild.
The women's peloton will next head to Geelong, Victoria, Australia where Spratt will defend her title at the Women's Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race on Saturday January 28. We look forward to seeing you there.
