Women's Worlds Road Race

The Danes take it!!! Amalie Diderikson, the 20 year old who rides for Boels Dolmans, beat out the Dutch favorite Kristen Wild (Hitec) and the Finnish sprinter Lotta Lepisto (Cervelo-Bigla) in a bunch sprint. After a short trek from Education City to the main course on Pearl Island, the peloton completed seven laps of the 15.2 km (9.4 mi) circuit. After numerous Dutch attacks were unsuccessful, the newly crowned World Time Trial Champion, American Amber Neben (Bepink), launched a solo attack with 43km to go and held out to the last lap. The strong Dutch team took over at the front of the race for the final lap, where they did a textbook leadout for their sprinter Kristen Wild. Wild, however, launched her sprint slightly early and ended up leading out Diderikson. The freelancing Dane chose the perfect wheel to follow and timed her move to perfection. With the win, Diderikson adds an elite rainbow jersey to her two Junior World Road Race victories in 2013 and 2014.
